This workshop is for absolute beginners to Digital Technologies curriculum content and those who have been dabbling and teaching in their schools. We'll be focusing on hands on and practical implications for your classroom programme.

Outcomes for teachers

Support teachers with practical classroom activities to teach the new Digital Technologies content. Provide teachers with practical programming activities, outlining the underlying computer science concepts and exploring how to extend students thinking and problem solving skills. Build a community of learners into Kiatakatū-ā-matihiko

Key focus

These are hands on, practical workshops, where you leave with ideas to start teaching immediately. This event is completely free, and lunch will be provided.

Teachers and leaders in primary, intermediate and pre-NCEA, this event is for those interested in developing and furthering their knowledge and learning new skills around digital technologies, computational thinking and problem solving to promote learning.

No matter what your level of expertise, you’ll be able to learn and extend your knowledge of both the new digitech curriculum and ways to implement key learning across the curriculum.

Tim Bell is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering at the University of Canterbury. He is in demand internationally helping teachers understand new computing curricula. He has received many awards for his work in computing education. He also plays instruments that have black and white keys.

Tracy Henderson is experienced at leading Digital Technologies in the primary to pre-NCEA area. She has lead numerous successful “seed” projects over the past three years to refine and learn how best to support teachers and school leaders to be empowered to teach and lead Digital Technologies in their schools and Communities of Learning (CoLs).
