This CORE breakfast seminar will explore the use of te reo Māori and tikanga in your learning environment. It will provide practical and simple ways to build confidence, enhance your practice and understand our commitment to affirming Māori as tangata whenua.

This CORE breakfast seminar will:

  • explore second language tools and practical strategies to effectively teach a language
  • provide fun games and activities to engage your students
  • provide links to useful resources to help with school-wide planning such as, Matariki and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori
  • create a kete of ready-to-use te reo Māori resources for everyday use in your classroom
  • build your social media networks to connect with #tereo tweeps who actively promote and interact in te reo Māori
  • explore online tools to enhance te reo Māori teaching and learning
  • explore learning spaces specifically for te reo Māori
  • demonstrate how to affirm Māori learners as tangata whenua (2.4 Our Code, Our Standard).

Who will benefit from streaming this seminar?

This session will interest teachers and leaders who are curious to learn creative ways to listen and challenge what has always been done, in order to bring about positive, innovative, and equitable change in classrooms.

Each breakfast seminar will begin at 7.30am and run until 8.30am. The live stream will be available from 7.15am.

Recorded video

A recording of the seminar will be published on CORE's Vimeo channel. Those who choose to purchase this recording will be provided with a URL and password. These details will be sent on the Monday following the event.

He uri tēnei nō Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, Rangitāne, Ngāti Porou hoki.

Rosalie Reiri has been teaching for 11 years in rūmaki within the Waikato and South Auckland areas where her knowledge of diversity and multiculturalism was fostered. She has recently completed a dissertation: "How to build a community of successful Māori learners in a decile one school", in order to identify key components to ensure success for Māori supports success for all.
