Kaiako have an important role to play in children’s development and learning by providing an environment that supports their developing social competence. Children learn with and alongside others, it is through experiences and interactions with others that children begin to understand what it means to be a member of society. In this workshop six practical strategies that contribute to developing children’s social competence will be introduced and explored. These strategies can be implemented in your practice immediately to enhance children’s social success in your learning environments

Learning outcomes

Participants will:

  • strengthen their understandings about the key features of social competence
  • understand the important role kaiako play in building children's social competence
  • understand ways to integrate practical teaching strategies into their practice that build and enhance children's social competence.
