About me

"We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools." MLK

I am a teacher at Lake Rotoiti School, a little country school that sits on the edge of the Nelson Lakes National Park. I mainly teach the Year 0 to 4 class and I am especially passionate about literacy, music and Philosophy for Children. I am an in-school leader for the Nelson Community of Learning and this year, I have been studying digital and collaborative learning with Mindlab, as well as Masters papers with the University of Canterbury. It's exciting to be part of the emerging leaders pilot and I'm especially looking forward to meeting other teachers and leaders within the Nelson area. It can be a lonely business teaching in a small and faraway school and I take every chance I get to get out and about!

I am supported by my friends and my children in my learning journey - my 11 year old twins are pretty understanding about Mum having long conversations about learning and also about being guinea pigs for some of my more 'interesting' ideas. As well as teaching, I am also passionate about Nepal and its people and I am pretty excited about my involvement with a charity that supports teacher development and improved classrooms in rural Nepal.
