Currently I am an Across School Leader for He Waka Eke Noa Kāhui Ako in North west Hamilton. I am in the classroom with children ranging from years 1 - 6. My role in school is one of two Senior Leaders of our bilingual classes of which there are 6.

Cultural responsiveness and learner agency are key areas of high interest to me at the current stage in my career. I have an invested interest in Māori Education and success in the bilingual and general/mainstream system. Throughout my teaching and during my own education Pasifika learners and success have also been central to my motivation to "find better ways". For me there is no question when it comes to culture and identity. Every child, every learner should be able to walk into an educational setting, whatever identity, culture and back story, with out being forced to leave any of themselves at the gate

I believe we are in the midst of one of the most crucial educational changes we have ever seen. This notion of future focused education is beyond automation and robots. As we prepare today's learners for the unknown, our job is not to teach by imparting knowledge but empower children with skills to seek knowledge and to be critical thinkers of that new found knowledge. Learner Agency can be seen at all levels of schooling and needs to be fostered from early childhood.

When I'm not thinking so hard about the above :) I live my dream as a Mama. I have 3 amazing children who cover the 3 levels of schooling. One in Reorua in Primary, one in intermediate and one in high school. They keep me busy with sport, and after school activities. They whakapapa to the East Coast, Torere,  Ngai Tai. I have strived to ensure they are comfortable walking in all their "shoes", whether it be at a working bee on the Marae or performing a tamure/hula on stage in front of hundreds.

Wow! I think that's plenty of info on me for now. Looking forward to the journey ahead.
