About me

Kia ora!

I have been working in the education sector for nearly 12 years and at my current Centre, Ara Early Learning Centre for coming up on 11 years.  I have a passion for holistic learning, scientific inquiry, mental health, resilience and wellbeing, and feel very privileged to be working with such a robust yet flexible curriculum document as Te Whāriki.
I have been married for 16 years to an IT nerd and we have an awesome teenage child together, along with our much doted-on rescue cat and a stray cat that has adopted us.
In our Centre we have a heart-centred philosophy and a strong focus on home-like authentic learning which we have grown through deep alignment with our own personal philosophies of teaching and learning.  Dr Louise Porter's and Janet Lansbury's respectful and positive behaviour guidance approaches are highly influential in my practice.  I am excited and energised by the gains in neuroscience and brain development that have been made while I have been teaching, and I loooove to piece together knowledge, experience and research to gain wider perspectives into individual and sociological development.  I'm a bit of a nerd like that.
